Phi Phi Diving Day Trip | Overnight Stays

To join our Phi Phi Diving Day Trip, an overnight stay on Phi Phi Don is required . Fortunately a 1-night stay is easy and affordable - so come and enjoy the island vibes, sunsets and nightlife!

Planning a Phi Phi Diving Day Trip? Well, an overnight stay on the island is required however the good news is that spending one night on Phi Phi usually gives you a far more relaxed and enjoyable diving experience than trying to squeeze everything into one long day.

It’s one of the most common questions we receive at Blue View Divers:  ‘Can we dive with you if our hotel is on the mainland?’   Depending where you’re staying, travel from Phuket, Ao Nang or Koh Lanta can take between 2 – 4 hours each way before you reach Koh Phi Phi.

Luckily, most central hotels are only a 5–10 minute walk from the Main Pier where our Daily Diving Trips depart from.

Phi Phi Diving Day Trips | Do I Need To Stay Overnight?

The simple answer is YES.  It is not possible to enjoy Phi Phi Diving Day Trip, returning to Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang or Koh Lanta the same day.  That is,  unless you book a private trip.   However, staying overnight is an enjoyable way to experience the best scuba diving Phi Phi Island has to offer.

All of our scuba diving day trips, activities and PADI courses depart directly from Phi Phi Don, where our dive centre and meeting point are located.

Quick Answer:

✅ Yes, you normally need to stay one night on Phi Phi Island.

✅ Morning dive trips leave before ferries arrive.

✅ Afternoon diving is possible if you arrive on the first morning ferry.

✅ We also offer a private mainland day-trip option for guests who prefer not to stay overnight.

Why I Need To Stay Overnight | Phi Phi Diving Day Trips

Although Phi Phi Island seems close to Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta, travelling here involves more than boarding a ferry. You will need a taxi transfer followed by a ferry or speedboat journey to take you to the island.  As a result, total travel times can range from approximately 1.5 to 3.5 hours each way.

Because of travel times and the current ferry schedules, it is not possible to travel from the mainland and join ur regular scuba day trips..

Based on the Mainland? Book a Private Trip

Our Mainland Private Dive is designed for divers to dive Phi Phi Island without staying overnight.    Unlike our regular scheduled Phi Phi Diving Day trips, this package operates as a private service.  Therefore it follows a completely different itinerary.  Additionally it includes private transfers, a private longtail boat and a customised schedules allowing travel  to and from your mainland base.

Because this is a private experience with dedicated logistics and operates independently from our regular Phi Phi-based diving schedule, it is priced differently from standard diving packages.

Can You Dive Phi Phi Island From Phuket?

Many visitors staying in Phuket assume they can take an early ferry to Phi Phi Island to join our daily dive trips.  Following the dive they expect to return in the evening.

Unfortunately, ferry schedules do not allow this.  There is not enough time to arrive before our morning dive, and afternoon trips return too late for final ferry departures back to Phuket.

Therefore, if you would like to enjoy scuba diving with us on Phi Phi Island, you will need to stay at least one night on the island.

Can You Dive Phi Phi Island From Krabi Or Ao Nang?

The situation is similar for guests staying in Krabi Town or Ao Nang.

Although ferries and speedboats operate between the mainland and Phi Phi Island, the schedules do not align with our daily diving trip schedule.

Consequently, a same-day diving trip from Krabi or Ao Nang is not possible when joining our regular dive schedule.

Can You Dive Phi Phi Island From Koh Lanta??

Koh Lanta is often the closest mainland-style destination for visitors looking to dive around Phi Phi Island.

However, despite the shorter distance, ferry schedules still prevent divers from travelling to Phi Phi, completing a regular dive trip with us and returning to Koh Lanta on the same day.

Just like guests travelling from Phuket, Krabi and Ao Nang, visitors from Koh Lanta should plan to stay overnight on Phi Phi Island.

What Time Do our Phi Phi Daily Diving Trips Operate?

Our Phi Phi Island, Daily Diving Trips schedule is designed for guests staying on Phi Phi Island.

Morning Dive Trip

  • 7:00am – 11:30am

Afternoon Dive Trip

  • 1:00pm – 5:30pm

There are no ferry services arriving early enough for the morning trip.  In addition, there are no services departing late enough after the afternoon trip, Therefore staying overnight is required for all regular diving activities.

What Are My Options For Phi Phi Diving Day Trip with Blue View?

Fortunately, there are two simple options that work well for most visitors,

Option 1: Arrive  to Phi Phi The Day Before And Dive The Next Morning

This is the most popular choice.

Option 2: Travel To Phi Phi In The Morning And Dive In The Afternoon

Alternatively, you can:

These options are particularly popular with travellers who prefer a more relaxed schedule.

What About Accommodation On Phi Phi Island?

Fortunately, these  two simple options work well for most visitors. However, if you’re only staying on Phi Phi Island for one night you must book accommodation close to Tonsai Pier.    Hotels on Phi Phi Island located on the far side of the island requiring a long walk or boat transfer aren’t the best choice for a quick overnight diving trip.

Instead, choose a hotel within easy walking distance of Tonsai Pier. This allows you to arrive, check in easily, enjoy your evening and easily reach our meeting point the following day without unnecessary stress.

After all, if you’re only visiting Phi Phi Island for a short stay, you’ll spend very little time at your hotel. A convenient location is far more valuable than a remote resort that adds extra travel logistics and stress to your trip.

If you’re unsure where to stay, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to recommend some convenient accommodation options close to our dive centre and meeting point.

Phi Phi Day Trips | Why Staying Overnight Makes Your Trip Better

Many divers initially see the overnight stay as an inconvenience. However, most quickly realise it becomes one of the highlights of their trip because of the affordable, convenient choice of restaurants and exciting night life.  Including fire shows, live music and all within walking distance from the centre.

Short Boat Journeys To Dive Sites

One of the biggest advantages of scuba diving from Phi Phi Island is how close the dive sites are.

Unlike many mainland diving destinations, where boat journeys can take over an hour, many of our most popular dive sites are only around 20 minutes from the pier.  As a result, you’ll spend less time travelling and more time underwater.

Experience Island Life After The Day Visitors Leave

Another benefit of staying overnight is experiencing the island once the day trip crowds have gone.

After the last ferries depart, Phi Phi Island becomes much quieter and more relaxed. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy beachfront restaurants, maginficant sunsets, famous viewpoints and the unique atmosphere that makes the island so special.

Access To Some Of Thailand’s Best Dive Sites

By staying on Phi Phi Island, you’ll have easy access to famous dive sites including:  Bida Nok,  Bida Nai, Palong Wall, Viking Cave, Malong,  Shark Point, Pileh Wall etc.

These sites are known for their colourful coral reefs, blacktip reef sharks, turtles, barracuda, moray eels and an incredible variety of tropical marine life.

There is one exception!

Our Mainland Private Dive Package is designed specifically for guests staying on the mainland who cannot stay overnight on Phi Phi Island.

Unlike our regular diving schedule, this package includes:

  • Hotel + Boat Transfers
  • Private longtail boat diving
  • PADI Professional
  • A completely customised itinerary
  • Different pricing and logistics

Full scuba gear and safety equipment including O2, First Aid and Spare gear.   Because this operates independently from our regular Phi Phi-based dive trips, it is the only way to complete a same-day scuba diving experience from the mainland.

Why Choose Scuba Diving on Phi Phi Island?

If you’re planning to dive in Southern Thailand, you’ll quickly discover there are many options including Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lanta and Koh Tao. However, scuba diving Phi Phi offers a unique combination of convenience, marine life, world-class dive sites and relaxed island atmosphere that is difficult to match elsewhere.

Please note you must stay on Phi Phi to diveWhen is the Best Time to Dive Phi Phi?

Scuba Diving Phi Phi Means More Time Diving, Less Time Travelling

One of the biggest advantages of Phi Phi diving is proximity to the dive sites.

Many of Phi Phi’s best dive sites are located just 15-30 minutes from the pier, meaning you spend less time travelling and more time underwater.

By comparison, divers staying in Phuket, Krabi or Koh Lanta often start their day with hotel pickups, road transfers and long boat journeys before even reaching the dive sites. A typical two-dive trip from these destinations can easily become a full-day activity lasting 8-12 hours.

On Phi Phi, you can enjoy two dives around the famous Marine Park and still have plenty of time left in the day to relax on the beach, explore the island or enjoy a sunset cocktail.

Koh Phi Phi Diving Offers Exceptional Marine Life

The waters surrounding Phi Phi Island are home to some of Thailand’s most diverse marine ecosystems.

Divers regularly encounter:

  • Hawksbill turtles

  • Blacktip reef sharks

  • Leopard sharks

  • Moray eels

  • Stingrays

  • Barracuda

  • Giant pufferfish

  • Cuttlefish

  • Octopus

  • Huge schools of snappers and jacks

The dramatic limestone cliffs, shallow coral gardens, walls and pinnacles create a variety of habitats that support an incredible range of marine species.

For many visitors, Koh Phi Phi diving delivers the perfect balance between colourful reefs, larger marine life and easy diving conditions.

PADI Courses Phi Phi in a Relaxed Environment

Unlike larger destinations where divers may feel like part of a production line, Phi Phi offers a more personal learning experience.

PADI Courses Phi Phi are often completed in smaller groups with shorter travel times to training sites and dive locations.

This allows students to spend more time focusing on skills, confidence and enjoyment rather than sitting in vans and on boats for hours.

Whether you’re trying scuba diving for the first time or earning your PADI Open Water certification, the relaxed island environment helps create a more enjoyable learning experience.

Phi Phi Diving vs Koh Tao

Koh Tao is well known as a certification destination, but the experience is very different.

Many divers choose Koh Tao primarily because of the high number of dive schools and lower course prices. As a result, some dive sites can become extremely busy with large groups of students training at the same time.

Phi Phi diving tends to focus more on the overall diving experience, marine life encounters and exploring dramatic island scenery.

Another advantage of scuba diving Phi Phi is the style of diving itself. Many dive sites allow divers to drift naturally around reefs, walls and bays before being collected by the boat at the end of the dive. This creates a more adventurous and natural diving experience.

At many Koh Tao dive sites, divers typically return directly to the boat after completing the planned route, creating a more structured experience.

Arrive and Dive the Same Day

Because dive sites are so close to the island, many visitors find Phi Phi diving extremely convenient.

Guests arriving on the island can often join an afternoon dive trip on the same day, while morning divers can finish their dives and continue travelling later that afternoon.

This flexibility makes scuba diving Phi Phi a popular choice for travellers wanting to maximise both their diving time and their holiday schedule.

Eco-Friendly Koh Phi Phi Diving

Blue View Divers is a PADI 5★ Eco Dive Centre committed to responsible diving and marine conservation.

We believe the future of Koh Phi Phi diving depends on protecting the reefs, marine life and National Park that make this destination so special.

Through small groups, eco-friendly practices, Green Fins standards and conservation initiatives, we aim to provide unforgettable diving experiences while helping preserve Phi Phi’s underwater world for future generations.
