Open Water Course – with PADI eLearning

Taking the Open Water Course on Phi Phi Island is an unforgettable highlight of any holiday!

Courses start daily and can be completed over two or three days, depending on your schedule and ability.

 

Duration:

  • 2-3 Days with *eLearning completed

 

Schedules:

 

  • 2 Day ‘Fast Track’

Perfect for adventurous learners who’ve completed PADI eLearning and have previous snorkeling and scuba experience.   An intensive schedule, not ideal for complete beginners.

  • 3 Day Regular Schedule

Our most popular option, and ideal if you need time to finish your theory. A more relaxed schedule allowing for resting between sessions.    3 days allows you time to book a second beach session if you requre extra buoyancy and skill mastery before open water dives.

  • 4 Day Options / 6 dives

A 4-day Open Water program with 6 dives  includes TWO initial Discover Dives designed for complete beginners before you begin.  Progress smoothly from Discover Scuba to full PADI certification in Koh Phi Phi. Alternatively you can book TWO Adventure Photography Dives after your course.

Pre-requisites:

  • 10 years of age or older
  • Medically fit to dive  *See RSTC Medical
  • No flying 18 hours after the dives
  • Also staying on Phi Phi Island for minimum 2 nights
  • Complete a 200 meter swim or 300 meter snorkel
  • Able to float for 10 minutes

First and foremost, the PADI Open Water Course is the world’s most popular scuba diving course, introducing millions to the wonders of the underwater world. This lifetime certification allows you to scuba dive globally, exploring depths of up to 18 meters (60 feet).

 

Open Water eLearning – Knowledge

Reduce classroom time on your diving holiday by enrolling in PADI eLearning! By completing the theory at home, you can choose a more relaxed schedule once you arrive on the island.  Additionally, if you have limited time an feel prepared , you can opt for the Intense 2-day schedule.

Furthermore, by signing up for PADI eLearning Online, you will receive your  e-Learning product which is called ‘Open Water (no video)’.  Then, you can work on this in your own time at home.

 

Classroom Learning:  Alternatively, if you prefer a more guided learning approach, you can easily schedule an extra day or two to study with us.

Additionally, we provide comfortable hammocks, a sea-view classroom, and Open Water Diver manuals, allowing you to have a paper copy in hand to supplement your learning experience. This supportive environment ensures that you receive the attention you need to succeed in your diving education.

You can conveniently study eLearning in your own language. However, when it comes to in-water training, you have the option to choose an English-speaking instructor or request a trainer who speaks your preferred language. This flexibility ensures that you receive the best possible learning experience tailored to your needs.

 

Open Water Theory:

  • Five chapters of theory with accompanying knowledge reviews.
  • Additional Open Water Diver videos which will be sent to you separately.
  • Finally, four Quizzes to test your knowledge and a final exam

 

This can take between 8 – 12 hours depending on each student and your learning style.

 

Open Water Course – Confined Skills

After you arrive to the island, you should have mostly completed your theory .  Next you will enjoy some morning practice of over 20 new scuba skills from Cabana Beach..

First off, learn to set up your equipment and perform essential safety checks, along with practicing key snorkeling and surface skills. These skills are important to master for a safe diving experience.

Open Water beach training is a key step in building your diving skills set because training covers a range of crucial techniques.  Including mask clearing, out-of-air scenarios, and buoyancy control. Conducted over 1-2 sessions, this training gives you ample time to practice and build confidence with everything you’ve learned.

These initial sessions help you become comfortable with the equipment and confident underwater. By the time you move to open water, you’ll feel well-prepared and ready to explore confidently.

A 200 metre swim and 10 minute survival float are also required for certification.

 

Open Water Ocean Training – The Fun Stuff!

Finally, you’ll have the chance to put your new skills into practice during four Open Water dives.  Allowing you to explore our stunning reefs—because this is the moment you’ve been training for!

After a quick 20-minute boat ride to the dive sites, you’ll jump in the warm tropical waters for your first dive!

Open Water ocean training dives are an exciting next step in your diving journey.  Furthermore, this is your chance to apply your pool training skills in real underwater environments.

First, you’ll practice essential skills like buoyancy control, navigation, and emergency procedures in the open water amid thriving marine life. These training dives occur at stunning sites, allowing you to see vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish up close.

Additionally, diving in the ocean helps you adapt to changing currents and visibility, boosting your confidence for diverse conditions. Each dive reinforces your skills, ensuring you are ready to explore  underwater safely and independently.

On your first day, you’ll complete two dives, reaching a depth of up to 12 meters. Then, on day two, you’ll dive deeper , this time reaching 18 meters. Between these dives, you can relax and enjoy delicious Thai lunch with stunning views of Phi Phi Leh island.

 

Small Groups

We focus on flexible schedules, thorough instruction, and small class sizes. With a student-to-instructor ratio usually at 2:1 and a maximum of four students per class, you’re assured personalized attention and plenty of time to connect with your instructor. This approach helps us understand and cater to your specific needs as a diver.

Moreover, our eco-conscious PADI Instructor Team is here to support you every step of the way, helping you refine skills to become a capable and confident diver.

If you’re feeling a bit nervous or have never dived or snorkeled before, we recommend booking a three-night stay on the island. Because this added time allows you to take the course at a comfortable pace, giving you the extra time needed to build confidence in the water.

Sample Schedule

Before You Arrive:

  • Complete Your Registration: Ensure you finish your course registration, eLearning modules, and course videos prior to your arrival.

One Day Before Your Course

  • Check-In: Please check in via WhatsApp or in person by 6PM for your course intro and equipment setups
  • Choose:  3-day relaxed schedule OR 2-day intense.
  • Quick Quiz & Registration: Attend a session at our office for a quick quiz and final registration.

INTENSE SCHEDULE - 2-DAY:

Day 1: Open Water Training Begins

  • 7:30am: Meet for a briefing and equipment setup.
  • 6:30am - 11:30am: Confined training
  • Take a short break
  • 12:30pm: Complete swim tests followed by a briefing
  • 1:00pm: Depart by boat to Phi Phi Leh and Bida Islands
  • Open Water Dive 1: Dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters
  • Lunch: Enjoy lunch on the boat
  • Open Water Dive 2: at different site
  • 5:30pm: Return to shore.

Day 2:

  • 12:30pm: Practice navigation on land followed by a briefing.
  • 1:00pm: Depart by boat to the Marine Park
  • Open Water Dive 3: Bida Islands or Phi Phi Leh to 18 metres
  • Recharge with a delicious lunch.
  • Open Water Dive 4: Dive at a different site
  • 5:30pm: Return to shore.

3-DAY RELAXED SCHEDULE

Complete all elements over half days spread out over three days.

After the Dives:

Debriefing: Complete a debriefing session and fill out digital logbooks after your dives.

Certification Issuance: Your certification will be issued within 48 hours, but no later than 7 days.

Important:  If you are nervous or have never dived or snorkeled before, we recommend planning for an additional day to accommodate a slower schedule. If you cannot complete the required skills on the first day, you can postpone the dives until after your Day 2 confined training.

A non refundable deposit secures your space and you will receive your e-learning materials.

Full payment  is required 1 day before and is non-refundable at that point. Rebooking fees may apply and no refunds during peak times.

 Please note, because we purchase elearning materials direct from PADI and assign them to your personal email, we are unable to refund your deposit. They can however be used in any PADI Dive Centre worldwide in the future

Medical Clearance Check

Your safety is our top priority.

Therefore, if you answer "YES" to any conditions on the standard diving medical questionnaire, you must obtain medical clearance before diving. Certain medical issues, like asthma or heart conditions, may restrict diving activities.

Additionally, if you’re taking any medications or have concerns about your fitness to dive, please inform us during registration.

Furthermore, we encourage you to review the Diving Medical Questionnaire carefully.  Because, if you answer "YES" to any of the questions, you must print the RSTC Medical form and take it to your physician before coming to Thailand.

While we do have a clinic on the island, it is important to note that it is not guaranteed the doctor will sign off on your condition or medication.

In conclusion, if you answer "YES" to any questions on #3, #5, #10, or anything on page 2 of the questionnaire, you must be cleared for diving before participating in our courses.

What Marine Life Can I Expect to See?

What do I need to bring?

We recommend you bring your own refillable water bottle and any seasick remedy that you prefer if prone to motion sickness.

Reef safe sunscreen is a must and we recommend you consider bringing SPF 50 rash guard which is also a good piece to have on your trip, especially for diving!  Of course a hat, SPF headband, sarong and sunglasses.  We have a dry bag on board should you wish to bring your phone, so make sure you keep it dry!

Should you require a medical for diving, please bring that to the office at signup or send via email or Whatsapp for the instructors' records.

What if I cannot complete the course for any reason?
