2008 news, International Year of the Reef on Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

IYOR (International Year of the Reef) – September 19th – 20th

2008 was the International Year of the Reef therefore Blue View Divers organised a trip to the local school. Community involvement is central to the ethos of our company. 60 Thai children and their teachers joined the event on the first day. At first, we taught them the impact of marine debris in our oceans. Secondly, the children participated in a beach clean-up as they recorded different types of rubbish that was collected. Nine of the students came on a snorkel trip with us after a short lesson about corals. They were able to learn about the corals and see first hand what we are trying to protect.

Return to Paradise Live Coral Project – August 2008

Phi Phi Tourist Police hosted a cleanup which was attended by our very own Divemaster Lisa , Khun Bell and Pee Gay. The cleanup took place under the recently renovated main pier in Tonsai Bay.
Approximately 19 divers took part and most of them were local Thais. Divers collected alot of rubbish including discarded gas cookers, blue piping, wooden planks and tires. Additionally, they found many beer bottles and even entire cases of beer that had fallen off the supply ships!

After 2 hours of hard work, most of the rubbish had been removed from under the pier. Tired divers posed for photographs and surveyed the rubbish collected before hauling it onto the rubbish boat.
