Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi is an amazing place, from the dramatic limestone cliffs to the friendly people, it is easy to see why so many people want to come and experience the beauty of the islands.
The islands are nestled in the Andaman Sea, and are found just over an hours ferry ride from Phuket and Krabi. Phi Phi is a national marine park, and consists of a cluster of 6 islands. These islands boast white sandy beaches, cool coconut palms, stunning coral reefs, and lush vegetation.
Phi Phi Don is the main island. The geography of this island is unique. It is made of two bays that sit back to back, with a narrow strip of land between them. This narrow strip of land makes up the village of Phi Phi and is where most of the island’s accommodation, restaurants and bars can be found. The famous Phi Phi Ley and the Bida Islands are where we take our divers, this is part of the National Marine Park and offers beautiful undersea landscapes and white sand beaches, Phi Phi Ley is also home to “The Beach” made famous in the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and people from Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta make daily trips to dive and snorkel around these islands. |

Phi Phi Tsunami
On December 26th, 2004 Phi Phi was hit by the wave from Sumatra. The island was partially destroyed, since then intensive volunteer efforts have restored the island to its former state and there are no visible signs left from the devastation of the tsunami. The National Marine Park of Phi Phi Ley and the Bida Islands suffered very little damage from the Tsunami and corals and marine life are as spectacular and beautiful as they were before 2004. Most of the devastation was seen in the reefs around Koh Phi Phi Don, where the damage was the most severe. There were no big organizations that helped the island, only private NGOs. Each NGO found their niche, and successfully brought the island back, HiPhiPhi, Aree Foundation, Krabi Relief, Releive Toi, Help Koh Phi Phi, to name a few. Located around the island are Tsunami boxes that were funded by charity and people on the island, these are situated in safe zones around the island including Viewpoint Resort where we are based. These provide the island with medical, construction, food, radio supplies in the case of another natural disaster. Blue View Divers is active in projects on the island such as cleanups, school education projects and funding for charities that benefit the islands. We are very grateful for all the time and hard work so many people put into this island. They have made brought together the community of Koh Phi Phi and made the island once again a place that people wish to come back to time and time again.
